The Library of the Catholic Faculty of Theology at the University of Sarajevo was founded in 1882, when the Archdiocesan Classical Gymnasium with a minor seminary in Travnik began its operations. With the relocation of the Archdiocesan Seminary to Sarajevo in 1893/94, the Library became an integral part of the newly formed Seminary. Even then, it was professionally organized, cataloged, and systematized according to thematic groups. Throughout its history, it has developed in accordance with the needs of scholarly research and philosophical-theological formation, and today it still represents an important resource for the Faculty’s students and professors, as well as other researchers of historical and religious subjects.
The Library’s collection comprises over 90,000 volumes, including duplicates. The library materials are distributed across eight depositories within 50 thematic units.
The library collection primarily consists of literature required for the Christian Theology study program. Additionally, the Library houses exceptionally valuable works on the general history of Bosnia and Herzegovina, classical literature, geography, and natural sciences.
The Library preserves valuable periodicals, including ceased titles and current periodicals.
The Library’s premises consist of a catalog, depositories, and two reading rooms.
The Library’s mission is to provide reliable, professional, and high-quality access to information resources, foster intellectual and spiritual development, and support the educational, scholarly, and pastoral activities of members of the theological and wider academic community.
The Library is committed to:
the development and preservation of collections with an emphasis on humanities and social sciences,
