What is quality assurance?

Quality assurance is a comprehensive system of continuous improvement in all areas of higher education – from teaching and research to governance and social responsibility. It is a systematic approach that ensures that the Faculty maintains the highest standards in all areas of its activities.

The goal of the quality assurance system is to build a mechanism for continuously improving the quality of work through the improvement of all processes and their outcomes, and achieving the highest level in teaching, scientific, artistic, professional and administrative activities.

What is it based on?

The quality assurance system at our Faculty is based on:

European Standards (ESG-2015)

  • Compliance with the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area
  • Applying best international approaches and practices

National regulations

  • Framework law on higher education in Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Law on Higher Education of Sarajevo Canton
  • Criteria of the Agency for the Development of Higher Education and Quality Assurance of Bosnia and Herzegovina

A quality culture that promotes:

  • Academic freedom and responsibility
  • Scientific-artistic-research and academic integrity and ethics
  • Entrepreneurship, curiosity, creativity and critical approach
  • Interdisciplinary cooperation

The relationship of faculty quality assurance to UNSA

Our Faculty is an integral part of the quality assurance system of the University of Sarajevo, which functions through a coordinated network of bodies at all levels:

At the University level:

  • Quality Management Committee – an expert and advisory body of the Senate (13 members: representatives of the Rectorate, academic staff from all science/arts groups, students and administrative staff)
  • Quality Assurance Service – a professional service that provides operational support

At the Faculty level:

  • Quality Assurance Committee – organizes and coordinates quality assurance processes at the Faculty
  • Quality Assurance Office – a professional service that performs administrative and professional tasks

The relationship is characterized by:

  • Coordination – regular reports from the Faculty to the UNSA Quality Management Committee
  • Cooperation – exchange of good practices, joint projects, support in evaluations
  • Autonomy – The faculty has independence in making quality-related decisions according to its own specificities
  • Integration – a single information system and common quality standards.

Collaborations and initiatives

Internationalization

  • External measurement and recognition of the level of excellence in the Region and the EU (university benchmarking network)
  • Involvement in international research networks and projects
  • Exchange of teachers and students (mobility)
  • Development of joint international study programs

Internal cooperation

  • Promotion of cooperation between faculties, teachers and students of UNSA
  • Bringing people together to solve problems and innovate research and educational practices
  • Joint interdisciplinary projects

Through a quality assurance system, our Faculty continuously works to improve all aspects of education and research, as an integral part of the mission of the University of Sarajevo to be an internationally recognized, socially responsible and successful university.
